The Attraction Overview
Curse of the Werewolf is an outdoor family launch coaster tucked into the Darkmoor village section of Dark Universe. Riders board a horse-drawn-style carriage from the fictional Carpathian Carriage Company and are pulled into the Cursed Woods, where the vehicle spins freely on its axis through curves and drops as the story's Wolf Seer, Maleva, warns that the curse has already taken hold.
Its signature feature is Mack Rides' free-spinning technology: unlike a fixed-direction coaster, each carriage's rotation is influenced by rider weight distribution and track momentum, so no two rides spin quite the same way. The layout threads through a decrepit barn and crosses directly over guest walkways, blurring the line between queue, land, and ride.
The Story
Curse of the Werewolf opened with Epic Universe on May 22, 2025, built by German manufacturer Mack Rides. It tells an original story inspired by Universal's 1941 classic 'The Wolf Man' rather than retelling the film directly, fitting Dark Universe's approach of building new narratives around Universal's classic monsters.
Before the Clock Strikes
- Use the single-rider line — it's one of the fastest ways to burn down a long Dark Universe wait, and Express Pass is also accepted here.
- Ride at dusk or after dark if possible; most of the layout is outdoors and the Darkmoor village lighting and fog effects are far more atmospheric at night.
- It's a genuine family coaster (not a thrill machine), but the free-spinning element can catch riders off guard — expect some unpredictable side-to-side motion even on straightaways.
- Fans often compare it to Islands of Adventure's Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure in energy, but with a shorter, punchier layout better suited to families than out-and-out coaster enthusiasts.
