Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

The Attraction Overview

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem transforms riders into Minions through Gru's shrink ray during a 3D motion-simulator sequence packed with the franchise's slapstick humor. Guests move through Gru's home and lab in the queue before strapping into simulator seating for the ride itself.

A nice touch for younger or motion-sensitive guests is a stationary, non-motion seating option in the same theater, letting families ride together even if not everyone wants the full simulator movement.

The Story

The attraction opened in July 2012 in Production Central, originally in the soundstage that once housed The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera and later Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast. It relocated to the newly built Illumination's Minion Land in the summer of 2023, where it now anchors the land alongside Villain-Con Minion Blast.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • Lines build quickly after park opening since it's near the entrance — ride early or use Express Pass if available.
  • The stationary seating option is a great choice for guests riding with someone who gets motion sick or is too young for the moving seats.
  • The queue is highly interactive and worth walking through slowly if the wait is short, with plenty of gags tied to Gru's lab.
  • Compared to Transformers: The Ride 3D, this is a much gentler, family-oriented simulator experience with far less intensity.
