Flight of the Hippogriff

The Attraction Overview

A gentle, outdoor family coaster themed around Buckbeak the Hippogriff, this ride skims low over a pumpkin patch before curving past a detailed replica of Hagrid's hut — no inversions, no big drops, just a breezy lap through the Hogsmeade countryside.

It's built specifically as a bridge attraction: thrilling enough for kids graduating from kiddie rides, mild enough for grandparents, and themed richly enough that Harry Potter fans of any age enjoy the detail work.

The Story

The ride opened June 18, 2010, replacing the previous Flying Unicorn coaster on the same footprint as part of the original Wizarding World expansion.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • Lines are usually short-to-moderate even when Hagrid's and Forbidden Journey next door are slammed — a good palate-cleanser stop.
  • Riders between 36 in. and 48 in. must be accompanied by a supervising companion in the same row.
  • No single rider line — it's a small-capacity family coaster, so expect standby-only.
  • Compare it to Pteranodon Flyers in Jurassic Park if you're chasing every family coaster in the park — Hippogriff is faster and has a longer layout.
