Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry

The Attraction Overview

Battle at the Ministry sends guests through the British Ministry of Magic aboard a 14-passenger vehicle mounted on a robotic arm — conceptually similar to Disney's Tower of Terror lift system, except here the arm itself rides a hidden coaster track, letting it lift, dip, spin, and tilt as it chases the story through room after room. Guests are drawn into a Ministry training scenario that spirals into a chase involving Death Eaters, Dolores Umbridge, and other Wizarding World threats, blending large physical sets with animatronics and screen-based backdrops.

Universal has described it as the largest, most complex indoor attraction Universal Creative has ever built, anchored by a grand atrium set piece reported as the biggest single structure the division has constructed — combining coaster-track robotics with elevator-style seating at a scale not previously attempted in a theme park dark ride.

The Story

The Ministry of Magic land and this attraction were part of Epic Universe's original 2019 announcement. As with all Epic Universe attractions, it has no predecessor — this is a brand-new park.

The ride's debut was rocky: reliability issues during spring 2025 previews forced a week-long closure just before the park's May 22, 2025 public opening, and Universal ran a virtual queue for months afterward while reliability improved. As of 2026, the virtual queue has been phased out in favor of a standard standby line, though the ride still posts long waits and periodically closes once at capacity.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • The virtual queue has been discontinued — it's now standard standby, but waits run long, so ride during Early Park Admission if staying at a Universal hotel, or early/late in the day.
  • Universal Express Pass is accepted, but it skips part of the queue's storytelling, notably Dolores Umbridge's office, which functions as the ride's pre-show.
  • Given the ride's history of unplanned downtime, check the Universal app for current operating status before queuing.
  • The standby queue is an elaborate, story-heavy walkthrough — worth experiencing in full at least once rather than always Express-ing past it.
