Hiccup's Wing Gliders

The Attraction Overview

Hiccup's Wing Gliders is the signature coaster of Isle of Berk, simulating what it feels like to fly alongside Toothless and the dragons of Berk. Built by Intamin, the ride features dual launches — including a second launch that kicks in after a brief rollback — sending riders up to 45 mph through banked turns, camelback hills, and sweeping dives that top out around 50 feet.

The ride's enclosed, wing-shaped cars and fully outdoor layout are designed to mimic actual flight, with Hiccup and Toothless appearing at key story points as riders 'pilot' their own winged glider around the island's cliffs and rooftops.

The Story

Hiccup's Wing Gliders opened with Epic Universe on May 22, 2025. It's a custom Intamin multi-launch coaster — a manufacturer known for launch technology on rides worldwide — configured here specifically for Isle of Berk's family-coaster niche, with zero inversions but a genuinely energetic double-launch layout.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • Use the single-rider line — it's one of the more efficient in the park and this ride typically pulls long standby waits given Isle of Berk's popularity.
  • It also has Express Pass access, so it's a strong candidate to burn an Express credit on if you're touring efficiently.
  • The second launch (after the rollback) is the ride's best surprise — don't expect the ride to be over after the first big hill.
  • Positioned as Epic Universe's answer to Disney's Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Universal's own Flight of the Hippogriff — a genuine family coaster with real speed, one notch below full thrill-coaster territory like Stardust Racers.
