Honu ika Moana

The Attraction Overview

Honu ika Moana is actually two side-by-side multi-passenger raft slides sharing one loading structure: Honu (the sea turtle) and Ika Moana (the whale). Both send two-to-five-person rafts through twisting channels, but with very different intensity levels.

Honu's signature moment sends its raft speeding up two massive banked walls through ocean mist before dropping into a splash pool, while Ika Moana is the gentler of the pair, with a whale-shaped raft that sprays water from a blowhole-style jet as it winds along a calmer waterway.

The Story

Honu ika Moana opened with the park on May 25, 2017, as one of Volcano Bay's original family raft slides.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • Both slides are standby-only since TapuTapu ended October 1, 2025 — Honu tends to draw longer lines given its higher thrill rating.
  • Honu requires all riders to be 48 in. (122 cm) or taller; Ika Moana allows riders as short as 42 in. (107 cm) if accompanied, or 48 in. to ride without a companion.
  • Rafts hold two to five riders with a combined weight limit (700 lb for Honu, 750 lb for Ika Moana), so larger groups may need to split up or wait to be paired with strangers.
  • If your group has mixed thrill tolerance, Ika Moana is the better pick for younger or more cautious riders while thrill-seekers take Honu next door — you load at the same structure so it's easy to split up and regroup.
