Jurassic Park River Adventure

The Attraction Overview

This boat-flume ride carries guests on a peaceful float through Jurassic Park's dinosaur paddock — until a systems failure lets the raptors and a towering Tyrannosaurus rex loose, forcing an 85-foot emergency plunge to escape.

The finale drop was, at the time of its debut, the tallest and steepest water descent built for a theme park, and it remains the park's signature 'get soaked' moment.

The Story

Jurassic Park River Adventure opened with the park on May 28, 1999, and has been periodically refreshed with updated dinosaur audio-animatronics and effects over the years.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • As of this writing the ride is temporarily closed for a scheduled refurbishment (closed since January 2026, with a planned reopening later in 2026) — check current Universal Orlando park info before planning your visit around it.
  • When open, a single rider line is typically available.
  • You will get wet — plan for a poncho or a change of clothes, especially in cooler months.
  • If you like this ride's mix of animatronics and a big splash finale, it plays as a gentler sibling to VelociCoaster's Jurassic World theming next door.
