Jurassic World VelociCoaster

The Attraction Overview

Jurassic World VelociCoaster is a launch coaster built around the idea that a pack of Velociraptors has broken out of their paddock and is chasing the train through the Jurassic Park area. Two separate launches — including a 0-to-70-mph blast in 2.4 seconds, the fastest launch of any Universal park worldwide — send riders through a 155-foot top hat, a 100-foot zero-g stall, and the signature "Mosasaurus Roll," a heartline roll that inverts the train directly over a lagoon.

The coaster uses lap-bar restraints only, with no over-the-shoulder harness, which makes the airtime moments and inversions feel noticeably more open than most launch coasters of this intensity.

The Story

VelociCoaster opened to the public on June 10, 2021, built on the footprint of the former Triceratops Discovery Trail. It was Universal Orlando's answer to the raptor-centric storytelling of the Jurassic World film franchise, expanding the original Jurassic Park area beyond the classic River Adventure with a full thrill-coaster experience.

The ride won the Golden Ticket Award for Best New Roller Coaster in 2021, the year it debuted, and has remained one of the most consistently praised launch coasters in the Universal Orlando lineup since.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • This is one of the more intense coasters at Universal Orlando — four inversions and two launches — so expect a longer wait most of the day; ride during Early Park Admission or in the last hour before close for the shortest lines.
  • A single rider line is typically available and can cut the wait dramatically if your party doesn't mind splitting up.
  • Because it's lap-bar only, loose articles rules are stricter than average — plan to use the free lockers near the entrance.
  • The Mosasaurus Roll passes low over the lagoon; front-row and back-row seats give noticeably different sensations on the second launch, so it's worth riding more than once if you can.
