The Attraction Overview
Kala and Tai Nui are a pair of side-by-side body slides that launch two riders simultaneously through intertwining, crisscrossing tubes down the flank of Krakatau. Each slide sends guests through a trap-door start similar to Ko'okiri, followed by winding turns rather than a straight drop.
The signature feature is the physical crossing of the two slide paths multiple times during the descent, so riders racing side-by-side can see each other pass as their tubes interweave — the green Tai Nui side is widely considered the more intense of the two.
The Story
Kala & Tai Nui opened with Volcano Bay's launch on May 25, 2017, built as an extended, serpentine companion to the park's more vertical trap-door slides.
Before the Clock Strikes
- With TapuTapu virtual lines discontinued as of October 1, 2025, this is now a standby-only attraction — arrive at park opening if avoiding a wait is a priority.
- Riders must be 48 in. (122 cm) or taller and weigh under 300 lb (136 kg); this is a single-rider slide on each side, so race a friend on the paired tube next to you.
- Tai Nui (green) is generally regarded as the more intense of the two paths, so first-timers wanting a slightly gentler ride can request the Kala side.
- Compared to Ko'okiri's straight vertical plunge, Kala & Tai Nui trade sheer drop for a longer, winding descent — a good pick for riders who want speed and twists rather than a single freefall moment.
