Krakatau Aqua Coaster

The Attraction Overview

Krakatau Aqua Coaster is Volcano Bay's water roller coaster, carrying four-person canoe-style rafts up hills and through banked turns using the same linear induction technology found on Universal Studios' Revenge of the Mummy, rather than relying purely on gravity and water flow.

Its signature sequence sends the raft in and out of the Krakatau volcano itself, alternating unexpected uphill launches with sharp descents before a final plunge finishes the ride.

The Story

The Krakatau Aqua Coaster opened with Volcano Bay on May 25, 2017, as one of the park's headlining attractions and a rare water-coaster format for a Universal park.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • TapuTapu's discontinuation on October 1, 2025 means this popular coaster is now standby-line only — it's consistently one of the park's longer waits, so prioritize it early in your visit.
  • Riders must be at least 42 in. (107 cm) tall, and guests under 49 in. (124 cm) need to ride with a supervising companion in the raft.
  • Unlike a straight drop slide, this is a multi-minute journey with several uphill launch moments — expect the unpredictability of a roller coaster rather than a single big splashdown.
  • It's the closest thing Volcano Bay has to a traditional theme-park coaster, making it a good pick for guests who enjoy Universal's dry coasters but want a water-park twist.
