Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides

The Attraction Overview

Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides pairs two five-person raft slides that share a name meaning "wet" and "wild" in Volcano Bay's fictional Waturi language. Maku sends rafts through a volcanic gorge with spinning bowl formations before finishing in geysers and a watery vortex.

Puihi's signature feature is a launch through a dark tunnel into a massive funnel formation, producing brief moments of weightlessness as the raft is carried up the funnel's sides before descending again.

The Story

Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides opened with Volcano Bay on May 25, 2017, among the park's original set of multi-passenger raft attractions.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • As with the rest of the park, TapuTapu virtual queuing ended October 1, 2025, so expect a physical standby line, especially for Puihi's dark-tunnel funnel finish.
  • Minimum height is 42 in. (107 cm) to ride with a companion; guests must be 49 in. (124 cm) to ride without one.
  • Puihi's funnel formation is the more disorienting and thrilling of the two — first-time riders sensitive to spinning sensations may prefer starting with Maku.
  • These rafts fit up to five riders, making them a good option for larger families wanting to ride together rather than splitting across single- or double-rider slides.
