Mine-Cart Madness

The Attraction Overview

Mine-Cart Madness is the headlining coaster of the Donkey Kong Country expansion within Super Nintendo World, sending riders through a mountain mine styled after the classic Donkey Kong Country games. The ride's claim to fame is a patented 'boom coaster' vehicle design: a two-level system where a real track carries the vehicle below while a second, fake track of broken and gapped rails sits just above, rigged with a hidden arm so the cart visually appears to leap gaps, jump broken bridges, and go airborne in sync with the show scenes.

Riders chase Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong through banana-strewn caverns and mine shafts, with the illusion of catapulting off busted track being the ride's signature moment — something no other coaster in the world currently replicates.

The Story

Mine-Cart Madness opened with Epic Universe on May 22, 2025. Its ride system was engineered with track and lift components from Intermountain Lift and restraint/engineering work from Germany's ART Engineering, and it holds a Universal patent for its illusion-based 'jumping' track technology — a first for the industry.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • There's a single-rider line, but it doesn't accept Express Pass, so weigh wait times carefully during peak hours in Super Nintendo World.
  • Ride vehicles run a few yards apart rather than as a connected train, so don't be surprised by gaps in the loading queue — it's normal and doesn't mean the ride is down.
  • The 'jumping track' illusion is most convincing from the front seats — try to angle for the first row if the wait allows a choice.
  • It's rougher and more herky-jerky than a typical family coaster, closer in intensity to Disney's Seven Dwarfs Mine Train but with more surprise jolts.
