The Attraction Overview
Revenge of the Mummy is an indoor steel coaster themed around the 1999 film The Mummy, sending riders through the cursed tomb of Imhotep with sudden launches, a fireball effect, and an unexpected plunge into total darkness. It plays out as much like a dark ride as a coaster, with sets, animatronics, and practical effects woven between the track's launches.
Its signature feature is a trio of linear induction motor (LIM) launches that fling the car from a dead stop, including one that happens while the ride vehicle is spun backward in darkness — a moment that regularly catches first-time riders off guard.
The Story
The ride opened on May 21, 2004, replacing the beloved Kongfrontation attraction on the same New York-themed footprint. Built by Premier Rides, it was among the first coasters to combine heavy dark-ride theming with LIM launch technology at this scale.
Before the Clock Strikes
- Use the single-rider line when visiting solo or splitting up a group — it's consistently one of the faster ways onto this ride during peak hours.
- The ride is almost entirely indoors and unpredictable in its pacing, so first-timers should expect surprises rather than trying to anticipate the layout.
- Lockers are required for loose items before boarding; give yourself a few extra minutes for the locker process during busy periods.
- Fans of launch coasters that pair thrills with dense storytelling should put this ride and Escape from Gringotts back to back — they scratch a similar itch in different styles.
