The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

The Attraction Overview

One of the original headliners from the park's 1999 opening, this ride puts guests in a moving 'Scoop' vehicle that combines real motion with 3D projection and practical effects as the Daily Bugle's photographers get swept into a battle between Spider-Man and the Sinister Syndicate.

The ride's signature moment is a simulated 400-foot freefall off a building — sold entirely through synchronized vehicle tilt, projected film, and a blast of air, with no actual drop involved.

The Story

Spider-Man opened with Islands of Adventure on May 28, 1999, and was considered a landmark technical achievement at the time for fusing 3D film, ride-vehicle motion, and physical effects into one seamless sequence. It received a major overhaul in 2012, upgrading to HD digital projection, new lighting, and updated audio.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • Ride in the first hour of park opening — Marvel Super Hero Island fills up fast once VelociCoaster crowds spill over.
  • A single rider line is available and typically runs much faster than standby.
  • 3D glasses are required and provided in the queue — if you wear glasses, thinner over-glasses styles fit best.
  • Fans of Forbidden Journey's motion-simulator tech will recognize the DNA here, though Spider-Man leans more on practical 3D film than robotic-arm choreography.
