The Attraction Overview
A Bolliger & Mabillard launch coaster that was the first B&M design ever to feature a launch, Hulk fires riders from 0 to 40 mph in about two seconds before the train's own momentum carries it up and over a 110-foot camelback into a sequence of seven inversions.
The theming leans into an origin-story concept — the queue simulates entering Bruce Banner's gamma-ray lab — but the ride itself is a pure, sustained-speed thrill coaster with almost no slow moments across its 2:15 run time.
The Story
Hulk opened May 28, 1999, with the park, and underwent a complete track and train replacement between September 2015 and August 2016, re-emerging with a redesigned layout, new OGV3 trains, and a reworked launch tunnel while keeping the coaster's core identity.
Before the Clock Strikes
- This carries the tallest height requirement at Universal Orlando (54 in.), so double-check younger riders before queuing.
- A single rider line is available and can save significant time.
- The launch is genuinely intense — riders sensitive to sudden acceleration should know this isn't a gradual lift-hill coaster.
- If VelociCoaster is Islands of Adventure's newest thrill machine, Hulk is its classic — expect a smoother, more traditional inversion-heavy ride rather than VelociCoaster's raw speed and airtime.
