TRON Lightcycle / Run

The Attraction Overview

TRON Lightcycle / Run is a high-speed launch coaster themed to the digital world of Disney's TRON films. Riders straddle individual Lightcycle-style vehicles (a small number of upright, non-straddle seats are also available) and get launched from 0 to nearly 60 mph before racing through a minute-long circuit of tight, banked turns — no inversions, just sustained speed. The whole course sits beneath a massive, glowing fiberglass canopy threaded with over a thousand lights that's become one of Tomorrowland's most recognizable night-time silhouettes.

It holds the title of fastest coaster at Walt Disney World, and unlike most Disney thrill rides, the sensation here comes almost entirely from acceleration rather than drops — closer to a motorcycle race than a traditional coaster.

The Story

TRON Lightcycle / Run adapts TRON Lightcycle Power Run, which debuted at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016. Disney announced a Florida version in 2017, and after a construction stretch that included pandemic delays, it opened at Magic Kingdom on April 4, 2023 — the park's first entirely new roller coaster in over a decade.

Its 6-acre footprint, built directly behind Space Mountain, made it the largest single expansion to Magic Kingdom since New Fantasyland opened in 2012.

Before the Clock Strikes

  • Ride at rope drop or late at night — this is consistently one of the most in-demand attractions at Magic Kingdom.
  • It uses Lightning Lane Single Pass rather than Multi Pass, so check current pricing in the My Disney Experience app before your visit.
  • Riders must be able to straddle the motorcycle-style seat; a limited number of upright seats exist for guests who can't, but supply is limited.
  • Loose items aren't permitted in the queue or on-ride — use the free lockers near the entrance and expect a bag check.
