The Attraction Overview
Waturi Beach is Volcano Bay's central wave pool, a sandy-bottomed lagoon set at the base of the Krakatau volcano and framed by premium cabanas. It's the park's main gathering and relaxation spot, longer than a football field, with room for hundreds of guests to swim or float at once.
Its signature feature is a rotating program of nine distinct wave patterns, ranging from gentle rolling swells to more energetic surges; an elevated sign changes and a bell tolls when a new wave set is about to begin.
The Story
Waturi Beach opened as part of Volcano Bay's debut on May 25, 2017, designed as the park's beach-and-lagoon centerpiece facing the volcano.
Before the Clock Strikes
- There's no minimum height to enter the pool, but any child under 48 in. (122 cm) must wear a Volcano Bay-provided life jacket at all times.
- Watch for the warning bell and signage change — waves start and stop on a set schedule, so there are calm windows for younger kids between wave sets.
- Cabanas and premium seating along the beach can be rented and are worth it on crowded days since shaded lounge space fills up fast.
- Compared to Universal's other, smaller water play areas, Waturi Beach is a true full-scale wave pool — plan on it being one of the busiest spots in the park during peak wave cycles.
