There is a moment at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, a minute or two before the parade reaches you, when the Headless Horseman comes down the street ahead of everything else. No floats yet. No music you can place. Just a horse and a rider and the crowd going quiet in a way Disney crowds almost never do.
We have stood on that curb more than once. This year we stood on it again — and then we did something we had never done before. We went back and watched a recording of the same parade from 2014, frame for frame, against our own footage from September.
We expected a few small differences. What we found was a parade that has quietly rebuilt about a third of itself while keeping the bits you would miss most.
The thing that surprised us: how much is exactly the same
Start with the good news, because there is a lot of it.
The sign unit still leads the parade. In 2014 it was a neon Mickey-ears sign; today it is a glowing wheel. Different object, same job — it comes around the corner and tells the street the parade has started.

The pirate ship is still the pirate ship. The characters aboard have changed, but the float itself sails down the same route. The ballroom dancers are still there, and the Haunted Mansion ghost bride is still among them. The ghost float still glides past, lit better now than it was. The red silo float, the barn float, the tombstone float, the villains castle float, the Queen of Hearts and her card soldiers, the dancers in the long dark coats, Peter Pan and Wendy — all still in the parade, twelve years on.
Our favourite small detail: the barn float has a rooster in the top window. It is in the 2014 recording and it is in ours. Same rooster, same window, twelve years apart. Nobody would have noticed if it had gone. It did not go.

What changed, float by float
The lead float. In 2014 the parade opened with a gazebo carrying a "Happy Halloween" banner. Today it is a gold Mickey and Minnie pumpkin float — and it carries a "Happy Halloween" banner too. They changed the float and kept the sentence.

The candy truck — this is the one we could not stop pointing at. In 2014 an orange truck came down the street reading Goofy's Candy Co., with Pluto riding it in a chef's hat and Goofy himself only on the sign. In 2026 the truck is white and neon and reads Sugar Rush Delivery — We Ship Anywhere! It is not the same vehicle repainted. It is a different truck with a different joke.

The candy float. Goofy rode it in 2014. Vanellope von Schweetz rides it now, and the whole float is lit and detailed in a way the older one simply was not.

The silo float. Some of the Country Bears rode it in 2014. Now Goofy rides it alone, with a few bears from the band walking along behind.

The band. In 2014 the band float was dark and genuinely ghoulish. Now it is neon — and it has moved later in the running order.

The pirates come in a different order. In 2014 the ship came first, then the Tick-Tock croc, then the pirate dancers, then the cargo floats. Today you get a treasure float first, then flag bearers carrying sail-shaped flags, and then the ship. The ship went from opening the section to closing it.

Pooh and friends switched sides. They used to walk after the lead float. Now they walk in front of it.
More villains on foot. Villain walkers were in both parades, but there are more of them now, and they walk right in front of the last float.
What we miss
Three things in the 2014 parade are not in the 2026 one.
The autumn tree float is gone. It is the only float that has actually left the parade.

The Tick-Tock croc walk-on is gone, and we were sad not to see it. That one stung a little, standing there waiting for it.
And Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow used to come through on foot. They did not this year.
What is new
Ursula now comes down the street with a group of villain dancers around her — a whole unit that has no equivalent in the 2014 parade.
And there is a vintage white car carrying Cruella de Vil. The car is new to the parade.

The ending is not the ending anymore
This is the change we did not see coming, and it is the reason we made the comparison in the first place.
In 2014, Boo To You ended on the candy float. That was the finale — sweets and Goofy and the music coming back around one last time.
In 2026, the candy float is still in the parade, but it comes about six-sevenths of the way through. The parade now ends on the villains castle float.

The parade did not just swap a few floats. It changed what it wanted to leave you with. It used to send you off with candy. Now it sends you off with the villains.
Whether that is better is up to you. We went back and watched the last ninety seconds of both twice, and we still are not sure.
Every unit, in order
This follows the running order of the 2026 parade. A few rows sit beside each other because the two units fall in the same place in the parade, not because we know one replaced the other, so each column says what that year actually had.

How we compared them
We put both parades side by side, in step, float for float — 2014 on top, 2026 below.
2014 parade footage used with the permission of its owner. 2026 footage is our own, filmed in Frontierland and on Main Street during our September 2026 trip.
